A good place to start is with the bottom of the pendant which should measure 28 to 36” inches above the island, countertop, or other work areas. 

We suggest that based on a 7ft island if using 2 pedants they should measure 12” to 16” inches in width and be placed 24” inches apart and for 3 mini pendants they should measure 6” to 8” inches in width and be placed 18” to 20” inches apart. 

For islands measuring more than 8 feet long, large pendants or linear pendants may be more appropriate and a good guideline would be that the width of the linear pendant would cover at least 2/3 of the island countertop. 

For smaller islands, it is usually best to center a pair of mini pendants above the space.
